Product Details

Diwali Light Quest is a printable pack for Big Explorers aged 7 to 10. Every page is built around a Diwali theme but asks real maths, science, reading and logic questions, so children practise school skills while they learn how families celebrate the festival of lights.

Maths pages cover calendars and the clock, prices, change and budgets, multiplication arrays, fractions, two-step word problems, tally charts, bar graphs, mean, mode, range, 24-hour time zones, coordinates and symmetry. Science and logic pages include a safe wick experiment with a data table, a fireworks safety lab, a logic grid, magic and sudoku squares and an escape-the-gate puzzle.

Literacy pages include a five-days zig-zag book, a 130-word reading passage about Prince Rama's return to Ayodhya with comprehension and vocabulary questions, a word search and a secret-greeting code, a six-panel comic, an acrostic poem and a thank-you card.

The pack is told with respect for the families who celebrate. It shares stories from Hindu, Jain and Sikh families and from Nepal, and notes that stories differ from family to family. Dates change each year with the moon calendar, and the pack says so. Fire safety comes first on every relevant page.

Pages are marked Warm-up, Challenge or Expert, and a certificate and a full answer key with worked reasoning finish the pack. The black-and-white colour-in edition saves ink and adds a colour-by-sum rangoli.
