Identify the Countries! A Fun Flag Worksheet for Kids

This worksheet combines flag recognition with spelling practice as children ages 4-6 study each flag and use provided letters to complete the missing parts of its country's name. Working from a partially filled word bank also teaches children to use context and available clues to solve a problem, rather than needing to know the full spelling from memory.

Curriculum

Earth & Environment > Country Symbols

How to use this worksheet

Look at the first flag together and say the country's name aloud, noting which letters are already filled in and which are missing. Review the provided letters and help your child figure out which ones belong in the blank spaces to complete the name correctly. Have them write the missing letters into the blanks, checking that the finished word matches the country they identified. Continue through each flag and partially completed name on the page.

Materials needed

  • Pencil
  • Eraser

Extension activities

  • •Research the capital cities of the countries shown on the worksheet.
  • •Color the flags after completing each country's name.
  • •Create your own flag for a pretend country and write its made-up name.
  • •Practice writing each completed country name three times for extra spelling practice.
  • •Find each country on a map after finishing the worksheet.

Tips for parents and teachers

Encourage children to sound out the words as they write, breaking unfamiliar country names into smaller chunks of sound. Help them with any unfamiliar words, since some country names use letter combinations children haven't encountered yet. Discuss the different cultures and languages of the countries as a natural extension of the spelling work.

Trace the Numbers 1-9 Worksheet for Preschoolers

Tracing NumbersNumbers

Tracing the numerals 1 through 9 gives children ages 3-5 repeated, guided practice with the specific pencil strokes each number requires, building the fine motor control and muscle memory needed for independent number writing. Because tracing follows a fixed, correct path, it also reinforces accurate numeral recognition, helping children tell visually similar digits apart.

CVC Train Worksheet: Write and Build CVC Words!

Cvc WordsPhonics

This worksheet gives children ages 4-6 focused practice blending letter sounds into consonant-vowel-consonant words, using train-car pictures as clues for words like 'dog,' 'hen,' or 'cup.' Because children both write the word and can optionally build it with Lego blocks, this worksheet reinforces the same phonics skill through two different physical actions — handwriting and hands-on construction — which helps the spelling patterns stick.

CVC Train Worksheet: Write CVC Words!

Cvc WordsPhonics

Writing consonant-vowel-consonant words like 'cat,' 'sun,' or 'pig' under matching pictures gives children ages 4-6 direct practice with letter-sound blending, a core phonics skill that underpins independent reading. Because each train car pairs a picture clue with a blank space, children also practice translating a spoken word they can sound out into its correctly spelled written form.

Parts of a Plant Worksheet: Identify and Label!

SciencePlants

This activity teaches children ages 3-5 the basic parts of a plant — flower, stem, leaf, and roots — by having them label a diagram and add texture using real pulses or grains glued onto the plant shape. Combining a tactile material with each labeled part helps young children retain the vocabulary better than labeling alone, since touch and sight reinforce the same information.

GeographyRivers

This activity teaches children ages 5-8 to locate and draw ten of India's major rivers on a blank map, building map-reading skills and geographic memory of the country's physical features. National SymbolsIndia

This worksheet introduces children ages 3-5 to national symbols by having them color each one and then match or write its name from a list of options.
