Number Tracing Worksheet: Trace and Count the Number 20!

This worksheet has children ages 4-5 trace the number 20, a milestone number that marks the top of the common preschool counting range, and then count and color a full set of twenty pentagons. Reaching and confidently counting to 20 shows that a child has built solid one-to-one correspondence across an extended set, a skill they'll rely on heavily once they begin adding and subtracting in early math. Counting pentagons instead of simpler shapes also gives a light introduction to five-sided shapes.

Number Recognition > Number Writing

How to use this worksheet

Have your child trace the number 20 in the dotted boxes, noticing that it's built from a 2 and a 0 written together. Then count the row of pentagons together out loud, touching each one as you count all the way to twenty. Have your child color all twenty pentagons with a crayon, recounting at the end to confirm the total lands on twenty.

Materials needed

  • Pencil
  • Crayons

Extension activities

  • •Have your child find 20 small objects around the house and count them out loud together.
  • •Ask the child to draw 20 of something, like 20 dots or 20 stars, on a blank piece of paper.
  • •Count together from 1 to 20 and then challenge your child to count backward from 20 to 1.
  • •Arrange 20 small toys into four rows of five to show how the total breaks into smaller equal groups.

Tips for parents and teachers

Reaching 20 is a genuine milestone worth celebrating, since it represents the top of the typical preschool counting range and often takes real persistence to count accurately. If your child loses count partway through the twenty pentagons, help them group the shapes into smaller sets of five before combining the totals. Once this worksheet feels comfortable, it's a natural point to start introducing counting beyond 20 in everyday conversation.

Tracing NumbersNumbers

Tracing the numerals 1 through 9 gives children ages 3-5 repeated, guided practice with the specific pencil strokes each number requires, building the fine motor control and muscle memory needed for independent number writing. Because tracing follows a fixed, correct path, it also reinforces accurate numeral recognition, helping children tell visually similar digits apart.

Caterpillar Counting Worksheet for Preschoolers

CountingNumbers

Counting the segments of each caterpillar teaches children ages 3-5 one-to-one correspondence — touching or marking each segment exactly once while saying a number — which is the core skill underlying accurate counting. Writing the final total in a box also connects the physical act of counting to its written numeral, reinforcing early number-writing practice.

Pac-Man Maze Worksheet: Count and Move!

MazeCounting

This dice-counting maze gives children ages 3-5 repeated practice matching a rolled number to the correct number of moves, reinforcing accurate counting under a bit of playful pressure. Tracking Pac-Man's current position after each roll also builds short-term spatial memory, since children must remember where they left off before moving again.

CountingMaze

This dice-driven maze combines counting practice with path-following for children ages 3-5, since they must accurately count dots on a die before moving Pac-Man the matching number of spaces forward. Deciding how far to move and staying on the correct path also builds early strategic thinking, as children track their current position within the maze after each turn.

AdditionCounting

Counting corn seeds on two ears of corn and combining them into one total teaches children ages 3-5 the core concept of addition as joining groups together, using a concrete, countable image rather than abstract numerals alone. NumbersNumber Recognition

This activity strengthens numeral recognition for children ages 3-5 by having them find and pair matching numbers from 0 to 18 printed on separate strips. Because the numbers are scattered rather than in order, children must recognize each digit shape on its own rather than relying on counting sequence, which builds true number recognition instead of rote list-reciting.

AdditionCounting

This hands-on craft turns simple addition into a reusable game, as children ages 4-5 build a paper house with numbered windows and a door that can be changed with tape or number stripes.
