How to use this worksheet
Look at the first picture and partially completed word together, saying the word slowly so your child can hear the long 'o' sound clearly before they attempt to fill in the missing letters. Once the word is complete, read it aloud together and check that it sounds correct. Move to the matching step, asking your child to draw a line or otherwise connect each completed word to its correct picture. Continue through every word-picture pair on the page, reading each one aloud together at the end to reinforce the spelling-sound connection.

If your child fills in a different, more familiar spelling instead, gently explain that this particular word uses 'ou' and needs to be remembered as its own pattern. Keep praising their sounding-out attempts, since recognizing the sound correctly matters more at this stage than spelling it perfectly on the first try.
