Summer Game Worksheet: Following Instructions and Counting Fun!
This worksheet has children ages 3-5 follow a numbered path from a 'Start' point to a 'Finish' point, counting each number in sequence as they move along the trail, combining counting practice with the ability to follow a visual path in order. Because the path likely winds and turns rather than running in a straight line, children also practice tracking a sequence visually across a page, a skill useful for later map-reading and following diagrams. Counting in the correct order along a path adds a playful, game-like structure to number sequencing.

How to use this worksheet
Point out the 'Start' and 'Finish' labels on the page and trace the winding path between them with your finger first, so your child understands the route before beginning. Have your child move along the path themselves, saying each number out loud in order as they go, using a finger, crayon, or pencil to follow the trail. Once they reach 'Finish,' recount the full path together to reinforce the number sequence from start to end.

- 1Have children create their own summer game path on paper, numbering it and inviting others to follow it.
- 2Ask children to draw a small picture related to each number along the path.
- 3Use the worksheet as inspiration for a physical game, laying out numbered spots on the floor to hop between in order.
- 4Play a simple board game together that involves counting spaces, to reinforce the same sequencing skill.
