Vowel e Cut and Paste Worksheet: Long and Short Vowel Sounds
This worksheet asks children ages 4-6 to make a genuinely challenging distinction: sorting words by whether they contain the short 'e' sound (as in 'bed') or the long 'e' sound (as in 'be'), a comparison that requires careful listening since both sounds involve the same letter. How to use this worksheet
Read through the word cards at the bottom of the page together, saying each one aloud and listening carefully to whether the 'e' sound is short or long. Help your child cut out each word card individually. Look at the two labeled boxes on the main page — one for short 'e' and one for long 'e' — and have your child paste each word into the category it belongs to. Work through the whole set together, rereading each word if your child seems unsure before making their final decision.

Make it a fun learning experience by praising careful listening as much as correct sorting.
