Letter Y Tracing and Recognition Worksheet for Preschoolers
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter Y through guided tracing practice and by identifying pictures of words that start with Y, like 'yarn' or 'yo-yo.' For three- to five-year-olds, tracing first with a finger and then with a pencil builds the motor memory needed before a child can form the letter confidently on their own.

How to use this worksheet
First, have your child trace the letter Y with just their finger, following the shape's diagonal lines down to the point. Then, have them trace the same letter Y with a pencil along the dotted lines on the page. Finally, look at the pictures together, name each one, and have your child color only the pictures that start with the letter Y.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Crayons
Extension activities
- •Find other objects in your home that start with the letter Y, like yogurt or a yardstick.
- •Practice writing the letter Y on a whiteboard or in a tray of sand.
- •Make a Y-themed snack, like yogurt with fruit, and talk about the letter while eating.
- •Draw a picture of something starting with Y and label it together.
- •Sing an alphabet song, pausing on Y to reinforce its sound and shape.
Tips for parents and teachers
Encourage your child to say the letter sound while they trace, since saying /y/ each time reinforces the connection between the shape and its sound. Praise their efforts and make it a fun learning experience, especially since Y can be a less familiar letter with fewer everyday example words.

Trace the Letter S Worksheet for Preschoolers
Tracing the curved strokes of the letter S helps children ages 3-5 build the specific hand movements needed for handwriting, since S requires a continuous curving motion that's different from the straight lines of letters like L or T. Repeated tracing also reinforces letter recognition, helping your child associate the shape of S with its name and sound. Because curves are harder to control than straight lines, this worksheet targets a slightly more advanced fine motor milestone than basic line tracing.
Letter I Tracing Worksheet: Learn to Trace and Identify Words
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter I, both uppercase and lowercase, through tracing practice and identifying pictures of words that start with I, like 'igloo' or 'insect.' For three- to five-year-olds, uppercase I is one of the simplest letter shapes to form, making it a good confidence-building letter even as lowercase i, with its added dot, introduces a slightly trickier two-part stroke.
Trace the Letter T Worksheet: Practice Writing & Coloring Fun!
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter T through guided tracing and by identifying pictures of words that start with T, like 'tiger' or 'turtle.' Letter L Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers: Learn to Write!
This worksheet helps children ages 3-5 practice tracing the letter L's simple straight-line strokes while identifying words that start with the letter L, giving early success with one of the more approachable letters to write. Letter S Tracing Worksheet: Learn to Write and Identify the Letter S!
This worksheet helps children ages 3-5 learn to recognize and write the letter S, both uppercase and lowercase, using its distinctive curving stroke, while also practicing identifying words that start with the letter S. Letter W Worksheet: Tracing, Coloring, and Word Recognition!
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter W through tracing, writing, and identifying words that begin with it, like 'watermelon' or 'whale.' Letter X Worksheet: Trace, Write, and Color the Letter X!
This worksheet introduces the letter X, one of the trickier letters for young children since so few common words start with it, by pairing tracing practice with picture identification for words like 'x-ray' or 'xylophone.' For three- to five-year-olds, working through a less familiar letter like X builds persistence and completes their sense of mastering the full alphabet.
Letter K Tracing and Coloring Worksheet for Preschoolers
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter K in both uppercase and lowercase forms through tracing, coloring, and identifying words that start with K, like 'kite' or 'kangaroo.'
