Valentine's Day Cupcake Coloring Worksheet: Find the Letter V!

This worksheet combines coloring with a letter-recognition search, asking children ages 3-5 to find and identify the letter V hidden within a Valentine's cupcake design while also practicing sustained hand control as they color. Searching for a specific letter within a busier picture, rather than tracing it in isolation, builds visual scanning skills, since the child has to filter out distracting shapes and colors to spot the target letter.

How to use this worksheet

Before coloring, look closely at the cupcake picture together and ask your child to find every hidden letter V, circling each one they spot. Talk about the /v/ sound as they find each letter. Once all the V's are found, let your child choose colors and fill in the cupcake design, encouraging them to notice the found letters again as they color around them. Count together how many V's were found in total.

Materials needed

  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Pencil

Extension activities

  • •Go on a V hunt around the house for objects like a vase, a van toy, or a vegetable.
  • •Bake or decorate a real cupcake together and talk about the V shape a piped frosting swirl can make.
  • •Trace a large letter V with a finger in a tray of sand or shaving cream.
  • •Play a simple sound game, saying words and asking your child to give a thumbs up if the word starts with /v/.
  • •Make a Valentine's craft using cupcake liners glued onto paper and decorated with hearts.

Tips for parents and teachers

If your child has trouble spotting the hidden letter V among the cupcake's other decorative lines, point out that V looks like two straight lines meeting at a point, which helps them filter it from curved decorative shapes nearby. Let coloring stay loose and fun rather than another precision task, since the letter search is already the main learning goal here. Revisit the /v/ sound in conversation over the next few days to help it stick.
