Letter B Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers

B combines a straight vertical line with two stacked curves on the right side, making it one of the more visually complex letters a preschooler traces, similar in difficulty to R and P. Practicing both uppercase B and lowercase b at ages 3-5 builds the precision needed to keep the two curves separate and roughly equal in size rather than merging into one large loop.

Writing > Letter Tracing A-Z

How to use this worksheet

Point out the dotted B and b and trace the shape with a finger — one straight line down, then two curves stacked on top of each other. Have your child trace the dotted letters, pausing where the two curves meet in the middle. Practice writing B on the blank lines provided once the guided tracing feels comfortable. Finish by naming a couple of B words together, like ball or butterfly.

Materials needed

  • Pencil
  • Eraser

Extension activities

  • •Find B objects around the house, like a ball, a book, or a toy bear.
  • •Draw a butterfly or a ball and write a big letter B next to it.
  • •Bounce a ball once for every letter B you spot on a page in a book.
  • •Practice writing B with a fingertip in sand or shaving cream, focusing on the two stacked curves.
  • •Color the pictures on the worksheet and name each B word out loud.

Tips for parents and teachers

Watch that your child keeps the two curves of B roughly separate and even-sized, since merging them into one big loop is a common early attempt. It's also common to mix B up with its mirror-image letter D at this age, so gentle, patient correction over time works better than repeated quick fixes. Saying the letter sound aloud while tracing helps anchor both the shape and the sound together.

Trace the Letter S Worksheet for Preschoolers

Letter TracingTracing

Tracing the curved strokes of the letter S helps children ages 3-5 build the specific hand movements needed for handwriting, since S requires a continuous curving motion that's different from the straight lines of letters like L or T. Repeated tracing also reinforces letter recognition, helping your child associate the shape of S with its name and sound. Because curves are harder to control than straight lines, this worksheet targets a slightly more advanced fine motor milestone than basic line tracing.
