Letter L Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers
L is a simple two-stroke letter — one line straight down, one line straight across — making it one of the easier letters for 3-5 year olds to master and a good letter for reinforcing that strokes should meet cleanly at a corner rather than overlap or leave a gap. Practicing uppercase L alongside lowercase l also shows children that this particular letter looks almost identical in both cases, just shorter.

How to use this worksheet
Point out the dotted L and l at the top of the page and trace the shape with a finger — straight down, then straight across. Have your child trace the dotted letters on each line provided, keeping the corner where the two lines meet crisp. Let them practice writing L independently once they're comfortable with the guided tracing. Finish by naming a couple of L words together, like lion or leaf.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Crayons
Extension activities
- 1Find L objects around the house, like a lamp, a leaf, or a toy lion.
- 2Draw a lion or a leaf and write a big letter L next to it.
- 3Make the letter L shape with your body by standing with one arm straight down and one out to the side.
- 4Practice writing L with a fingertip in sand, rice, or shaving cream.
- 5Build the letter L out of two craft sticks glued onto paper.

Letter I Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
Uppercase I is one of the simplest letters — a single straight vertical line — making it a quick, confidence-building trace, while lowercase i adds a small dot above a short line, introducing the idea that some letters have a separate mark that belongs to them. Practicing both forms at ages 3-5 teaches children that a letter's dot or detail isn't optional decoration but part of the letter itself.
Letter E Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers: Practice Writing the Letter 'e'
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
Tracing the tall, three-armed shape of uppercase E and the shorter horizontal strokes of lowercase e gives children practice with the left-to-right, top-to-bottom pencil movements that all English letters are built from. At ages 3-5, repeating this motion strengthens the finger and wrist muscles needed for a stable pencil grip, while saying the /e/ sound aloud connects the shape to a sound they'll need for reading.
Letter B Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
B combines a straight vertical line with two stacked curves on the right side, making it one of the more visually complex letters a preschooler traces, similar in difficulty to R and P. Practicing both uppercase B and lowercase b at ages 3-5 builds the precision needed to keep the two curves separate and roughly equal in size rather than merging into one large loop.
Letter W Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers: Practice Writing the Letter W!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
W is essentially two V shapes joined together, making it one of the most stroke-heavy letters a preschooler encounters — tracing it builds stamina for multi-stroke letters and reinforces the diagonal-line control introduced by simpler letters like V. Practicing uppercase W and lowercase w at ages 3-5 also helps children notice that lowercase w is just a smaller version of the same repeated zigzag.
C is for Circus! Letter C Tracing Worksheet
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
Because C is a single open curve, tracing it gives children practice with smooth, continuous pencil movement without any straight lines or corners to lean on, similar to the challenge of letters like S and O. The circus theme on this worksheet also ties the letter to a memorable, exciting image, which helps preschoolers retain new letter-sound associations better than a plain, unthemed page.
Letter D Tracing Worksheet: Practice Uppercase and Lowercase 'd'
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
D combines a straight vertical line with a single large curve on the right side, giving 3-5 year olds practice joining a straight stroke to a curved one in a single letter — a step up from the all-straight T or the all-curved C. Tracing both the uppercase D and lowercase d also helps children notice how the two forms are nearly mirror images of each other in shape.
Letter U Tracing Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
U is a single smooth curve that dips down and back up, similar in motion to a shallow smile shape, giving 3-5 year olds continued practice with curved strokes after tackling letters like C and O. Tracing both uppercase U and lowercase u also shows children that, unlike many letters, U looks almost the same in both cases, just at a different size.
Letter 'a' Tracing Worksheet: Practice Uppercase and Lowercase!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
As the very first letter of the alphabet, lowercase a has a slightly tricky shape — a small circle with a short vertical line on the right — that looks quite different from its capital A counterpart, so tracing both forms together helps children notice that the same letter can look two different ways. Repeating this motion at ages 3-5 builds the curved-stroke control that many other lowercase letters, like d, g, and q, also depend on.

Letter W Worksheet: Tracing, Coloring, and Word Recognition!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter W through tracing, writing, and identifying words that begin with it, like 'watermelon' or 'whale.' For three- to five-year-olds, practicing a letter with a more complex zigzag shape than earlier letters like O or L also develops the finer pencil control needed for more advanced handwriting.
Letter F Worksheet: Trace, Color, and Learn!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet builds children's ability to reproduce capital F — a vertical line with two horizontal branches — through repeated tracing, while the matching coloring activity trains them to connect the letter shape to its beginning sound in real words. For 3-5 year olds, this dual practice of motor formation plus sound recognition is exactly the combination that prepares a child to write and read independently.
Letter 'i' Tracing and Matching Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet builds recognition of the letter 'i' for 3-5 year olds through tracing, picture matching, and a highlighting activity, giving repeated exposure to both the letter's shape and its sound in a single sitting. Matching objects that start with 'i' alongside the tracing practice connects the visual letter shape to real vocabulary, reinforcing that letters aren't abstract marks but stand for actual sounds your child hears in words they already know.
Letter 'k' Worksheet: Trace, Match, and Color!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet builds letter 'k' recognition for 3-5 year olds across three connected activities — tracing its shape, matching it to pictures that start with the same sound, and coloring those matched objects — which reinforces the letter through repetition in different formats rather than a single pass. The 'k' sound and shape are less commonly practiced than more frequent letters, so this worksheet gives your child valuable extra exposure to a trickier letter.
Letter 'U' Worksheet: Trace, Match, and Color!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
Tracing, matching, and coloring the letter 'U' gives children ages 3-5 focused repetition on a rounded letter shape while building the sound-symbol connection for its short /u/ sound, as in 'umbrella' or 'up.' Matching pictures that start with 'U' to the letter reinforces recognition beyond the written form, tying it to real, familiar objects. Combining tracing, matching, and coloring in a single page suits a preschooler's need for varied, short activities rather than one long repetitive drill.
Letter I Tracing Worksheet: Learn to Trace and Identify Words
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet builds recognition and formation of the letter I, both uppercase and lowercase, through tracing practice and identifying pictures of words that start with I, like 'igloo' or 'insect.' For three- to five-year-olds, uppercase I is one of the simplest letter shapes to form, making it a good confidence-building letter even as lowercase i, with its added dot, introduces a slightly trickier two-part stroke.
Gg Letter Tracing and Recognition Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet helps children ages 3-5 practice writing both uppercase and lowercase Gg while training them to recognize the letter in different fonts and contexts, an important skill since printed letters don't always look identical to handwritten ones. Identifying pictures that start with Gg also builds phonemic awareness, linking the letter's shape to its 'guh' sound.
Letter R Worksheet: Trace, Identify, and Color!
Ages 4-5 · Pre-KAges 4-5 · ReceptionAges 4-5 · LKGAges 4-5
This worksheet helps children ages 4-5 practice tracing and writing the letter R, spotting it among a group of other letters, and recognizing objects that begin with the R sound. Working across three related tasks for one letter, tracing, searching, and identifying pictures, gives repeated exposure that helps the letter shape and sound become automatic.
