Shape Sorting Worksheet: Cut and Paste Fun!
This cut-and-paste activity asks 3-5 year olds to do more than just name a shape — they have to look at a jumble of circles, squares, and triangles, decide which column each one belongs to, and physically place it there. That sorting step is what builds real shape classification, not just shape labeling, since your child must compare each new piece against the ones already in the column. Cutting the shapes out along their curves and corners is also genuine scissor practice, since curved cuts (circles) are notably harder for small hands than straight ones (triangles, squares).

How to use this worksheet
Start by naming the shape columns at the top of the page together so your child knows where each shape needs to go. Have them cut out the shapes at the bottom of the page one at a time, saying the shape's name out loud as they cut it free. For each shape, ask 'Which column does this belong in?' before they glue it down, rather than gluing first and checking after. Work through all the pieces, then run a finger down each finished column and count how many shapes ended up there.

- 1Go on a shape hunt through the kitchen or living room, spotting circles (plates), squares (tiles), and triangles (sandwich halves).
