Animal Hot and Cold Worksheet for Preschoolers
This worksheet asks children to reason about which environment, hot or cold, best suits a given animal, then apply a counting task on top of that sorting decision. How to use this worksheet
Look at each animal picture together and ask your child what they know about where it lives before marking an answer. Have them tick the sun symbol if the animal prefers a hot environment or the ice ball symbol if it prefers a cold one. Once every animal has been sorted, go back and have your child count how many animals ended up in each group, writing the totals in the boxes provided. Review the page together, asking your child to explain their reasoning for at least two of their choices.

- 1Draw your own favorite hot-climate and cold-climate animals on a blank sheet of paper.
- 2Create a two-column collage using magazine cutouts, sorting animal pictures into hot and cold groups.
- 3Talk about what your family wears in hot weather versus cold weather and compare it to how animals adapt with fur or feathers.
- 4Visit a zoo or aquarium, in person or virtually, and note which enclosures are designed to be warm or cool.
