Color the 3D Shapes Worksheet for Kids

How to use this worksheet
Start by looking at the color key together and naming each shape and its assigned color out loud, which helps your child connect the shape's name to what they're about to do. Go shape by shape, asking your child to first identify the shape by name before picking up the matching crayon and coloring it in. Encourage them to color within the shape's outline as neatly as they can, and pause after each shape to review its name once more before moving to the next one.

- •Go on a shape hunt around the house for real cubes, spheres, and pyramids — a die, a ball, a party hat.
- •Build the five shapes out of playdough or modeling clay, naming each one as you make it.

- •Look at food items — an orange is a sphere, a cereal box is a cuboid — and name their shapes together.
Tips for parents and teachers
Cube and cuboid, and sphere and cylinder, are commonly confused at this age since the differences are subtle — hold up real objects side by side to make the distinction concrete. If your child colors outside the lines, that's expected fine motor development at this stage and shouldn't overshadow praise for correctly naming the shapes. Repeating shape names out loud multiple times during the activity does more for retention than the coloring itself.
