How to use this worksheet
Start by saying your child's name slowly, sound by sound, before they pick up a pencil, so they hear the letters they're about to write. Let them write their name on the cover lines however they're currently able to — full letters, a few letters, or a scribble that represents their name — without correcting the attempt. Once the name is down, move to the back page for the self-portrait and let them decorate the rest of the book freely.

- 1Staple a few blank pages behind the cover so 'My Book' becomes a real mini storybook to fill in over several days.
- 2Practice writing just the first letter of their name five times before attempting the whole name.
- 3Make a name puzzle by writing the name in big letters, cutting it into pieces, and reassembling it.
- 4Look for their name's first letter on cereal boxes, street signs, or other books around the house.
- 5Have them 'read' their finished book aloud to a stuffed animal or family member.
