How to use this worksheet
Have your child run a finger along the pattern from left to right first, without a pencil, just to notice the direction and rhythm of the repeating shape. Then have them trace the existing portion of the pattern with a pencil, keeping their eyes just ahead of where their hand is moving. Let them continue the pattern into the blank space, checking that they're still moving left to right rather than reversing direction partway. Praise reaching the end of the row as a small accomplishment.
Extension activities
- 1Line up small toys or blocks in a repeating pattern and have your child point to each one left to right while naming it.
- 2Practice a rhythm clapping game that moves in a set left-to-right visual order, like pointing to numbered spots on a wall.
