Rhyming Words Worksheet: Fun with Sounds!
This worksheet has children ages 4-5 look at paired pictures, say the words aloud, and write the word that rhymes with its partner, building phonological awareness by focusing on matching ending sounds rather than beginning ones. Recognizing rhymes is one of the strongest early predictors of later reading success, since it trains children's ears to notice and manipulate the sounds within words.

How to use this worksheet
Look at the first picture pair together and say both words slowly and clearly, listening for the matching ending sound. Ask your child to confirm that the two words rhyme before writing the rhyming word in the box provided. Repeat this process for each picture pair on the page, always saying the words aloud before writing. Once finished, read through all the completed rhyming pairs together.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Eraser
Extension activities
- •Draw your own pictures of rhyming words, like cat and hat, and label them together.
- •Find rhyming words in a favorite book, pausing while reading to point out any you spot.
- •Play a rhyming clapping game, taking turns saying a word and a word that rhymes with it.
- •Make up silly rhyming sentences together, like 'the cat sat on a mat.'
- •Sort picture cards into rhyming pairs as a matching game.
Tips for parents and teachers
Encourage your child to say the words out loud and listen for the rhyming sounds, since hearing the rhyme matters more at this stage than spelling the word correctly. Help them sound out the words if needed, but focus your feedback on whether they correctly identified the rhyme rather than on perfect handwriting. If a word choice is close but not quite a rhyme, say both words aloud slowly together to help your child hear the difference.

Rhyming Words Worksheet for Preschoolers: Fun with Sounds!
This worksheet develops phonological awareness in children ages 3-5 by having them color groups of rhyming word bubbles and then tap, spell, and circle a matching rhyme. Recognizing that words like 'cat', 'hat', and 'bat' share an ending sound is one of the earliest and most reliable predictors of later reading success, because it teaches children to hear words as strings of sound parts rather than single units.
Rhyming Words Worksheet: Find and Count!
Rhyming awareness is one of the earliest and most predictive phonological awareness skills for children ages 4-5, since recognizing that two words share an ending sound pattern lays the groundwork for later word-family and spelling instruction. This worksheet has children identify rhyming pairs by color-coding them and then count the total number of pairs they found, adding a light counting and math element on top of the core phonics task. Combining rhyme detection with counting keeps the activity varied while reinforcing that rhyming pairs come in twos, a small but meaningful numeracy connection.
Rhyming Words Worksheet: Color and Circle the Rhymes!
This worksheet builds phonological awareness in children ages 4-5 by having them color word bubbles that rhyme with 'sad' and then circle the word in each box that rhymes with its picture. Practicing rhyme recognition across two different formats — coloring a themed rhyme set and then identifying new rhymes independently — deepens a skill that's strongly linked to later reading and spelling success.
Trace the Numbers 1-9 Worksheet for Preschoolers
Tracing the numerals 1 through 9 gives children ages 3-5 repeated, guided practice with the specific pencil strokes each number requires, building the fine motor control and muscle memory needed for independent number writing. Because tracing follows a fixed, correct path, it also reinforces accurate numeral recognition, helping children tell visually similar digits apart.
CVC Train Worksheet: Write and Build CVC Words!
This worksheet gives children ages 4-6 focused practice blending letter sounds into consonant-vowel-consonant words, using train-car pictures as clues for words like 'dog,' 'hen,' or 'cup.' Because children both write the word and can optionally build it with Lego blocks, this worksheet reinforces the same phonics skill through two different physical actions — handwriting and hands-on construction — which helps the spelling patterns stick.
Plant Parts Worksheet: Identify and Label the Parts of a Plant!
This worksheet teaches children ages 4-6 to identify and independently label the flower, stem, leaf, and roots of a plant, moving a step beyond simple matching toward recalling vocabulary from memory. Optionally adding pulses or grains to the diagram introduces a tactile, sensory layer that helps reinforce which part is which through touch as well as sight.
CVC Train Worksheet: Write CVC Words!
Writing consonant-vowel-consonant words like 'cat,' 'sun,' or 'pig' under matching pictures gives children ages 4-6 direct practice with letter-sound blending, a core phonics skill that underpins independent reading. Because each train car pairs a picture clue with a blank space, children also practice translating a spoken word they can sound out into its correctly spelled written form.
Parts of a Plant Worksheet: Identify and Label!
This activity teaches children ages 3-5 the basic parts of a plant — flower, stem, leaf, and roots — by having them label a diagram and add texture using real pulses or grains glued onto the plant shape. Combining a tactile material with each labeled part helps young children retain the vocabulary better than labeling alone, since touch and sight reinforce the same information.
