Choosing the correct conjunction to complete a sentence teaches children ages 4-6 how small connecting words like 'and,' 'but,' and 'or' link two ideas together into one longer, more complex thought. How to use this worksheet
Read the first sentence aloud together, pausing at the blank space where a conjunction is missing. Look at the list of conjunction options together and ask your child which one makes the sentence make the most sense when read aloud. Have them write their chosen conjunction in the blank, then reread the full sentence to check that it sounds right. After completing all the sentences, move to the matching section at the bottom of the page and have your child draw lines connecting the related sentence halves.

Tips for parents and teachers
If a sentence sounds odd with a chosen conjunction, encourage your child to try a different option and listen for which one flows naturally, since conjunctions are often best learned by ear. Explain simply that 'and' adds ideas together, 'but' shows a difference, and 'or' offers a choice, using short examples your child can relate to. Reading the completed sentence aloud every time reinforces both the grammar lesson and general sentence fluency.
