UKG Colouring Worksheets (Ages 5–6)

It is filler only if the page has no task. A plain picture at five passes time; a page with a code does not. Colour by sight word makes the child read a word ten or twenty times in a sitting, colour by sum gives a dozen addition facts without a worksheet feel, and a mystery grid rewards checking row and column. The hand work still matters, because the small controlled strokes are the same ones handwriting uses.

Five-year-olds can hold a fine coloured pencil and stay inside small shapes, so colouring worksheets now carry real reading and number work. Colour by sight word asks for "the", "and" and "was" to be read before every stroke; colour by sum replaces plain numerals with 3 + 2; and a ten-by-ten mystery grid hides a picture until the right squares are filled. Fifteen minutes of steady work is a fair expectation. Neat edges are not. Before this stage a child should write most capital letters from memory, know the sound each letter makes, count objects accurately to twenty, and sit through a full worksheet without needing a break halfway through.

The sheets cover staying inside an outline, crayon or pencil pressure control, colour recognition and naming and filling a large area evenly, which sit inside the NEP 2020 Foundational Stage (NCF-FS 2022) outcomes for UKG.
