How to use this worksheet
Start at the top of the page by having your child find and color each of the five vowel letters, saying its name and sound aloud as they color it. Move down to the picture words, saying each picture's name slowly and stretching out the vowel sound so your child can hear which vowel is missing. Have them write the missing vowel in the blank space of each word. Finish by rereading the completed words together.

Tips for parents and teachers
Vowel sounds can be tricky to isolate, so exaggerate the sound as you say each word, like 'caaaat' for the short A, rather than just naming the letter. If your child guesses the wrong vowel, have them say the word both ways out loud so they can hear which one matches the picture. Keep the coloring portion relaxed and unhurried, since it's a good warm-up before the more demanding letter-writing task.
