Blend Words Worksheet: See the Pictures and Write the Correct Blend!
Children ages 4-6 practice identifying missing consonant blends by looking at a picture, saying the word aloud, and writing the correct blend to complete it. This task requires children to isolate the blended sound at the beginning of a word and match it to its written letter combination, a more advanced phonics skill than single-letter sounds. Successfully completing each word strengthens both spelling accuracy and reading fluency with blended sounds.

How to use this worksheet
Look at the first picture together and say the word slowly, listening closely for the two-letter blend sound at the start. Ask your child what letters they think make that blended sound, then have them write the missing blend on the line to complete the word. Read the finished word aloud together to check it sounds correct. Repeat this process for each picture on the page, reviewing all completed words together at the end.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Eraser
Extension activities
- 1Read the completed words aloud together and clap once for each syllable.
- 2Draw a new picture for a different blend word not included on the worksheet.
- 3Play a listening game where you say a blend word and your child identifies the beginning sound.
- 4Sort household objects by their beginning blend sound, like everything starting with 'sl' together.
- 5Create simple flashcards pairing pictures with their blend words for quick review.

Near or Far? Preposition Worksheet for Kids
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
Preschoolers ages 3-5 build early spatial vocabulary by identifying which pictured object is positioned 'near' another, a comparative concept that requires judging relative distance between two things. Understanding 'near' versus 'far' lays groundwork for later spatial reasoning skills, like following directions and reading simple maps. Ticking the correct object also sharpens visual comparison and careful observation.
Parent's Guide: Fun Activities for Early Learning
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This parent guide bundles three separate early-learning activities, blending sounds into words, understanding prepositions like 'near' and 'far,' and practicing basic math, into one set of hands-on games rather than a single printed page. Combining these skills in short, varied activities matches how preschoolers actually learn best: through play, repetition, and movement rather than sitting through one long task.
Gr Blend Words Worksheet: Circle the 'gr' Words!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
Learning to recognize the 'gr' consonant blend, as in 'grass,' 'green,' or 'grape,' trains children's ears to hear two consonant sounds pressed together at the start of a word, a more advanced phonics skill than single-letter sounds. For ages four to six, mastering common blends like 'gr' significantly expands the number of words they can decode independently when reading.
Help the Mouse Escape! Numbers 81-90 Maze Worksheet
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
This maze worksheet asks children ages 4-6 to connect numbers in order from 81 to 90, giving practice with number sequencing in the higher tens range while adding a playful story element — helping a mouse escape from cats. Because the numbers must be found and connected in the correct order among a maze of paths, the activity combines number recognition with visual scanning and route planning. Working confidently within the 80s range also builds toward full fluency counting to 100, a key numeracy milestone at this age.
Parts of a Plant Worksheet: Unscramble and Match!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
Children ages 4-6 learn the names of plant parts — like roots, stem, leaves, and flower — by unscrambling jumbled letters to spell each word and then matching it to the correct picture. Unscrambling requires recognizing familiar letter patterns and sounding out possibilities, a strong spelling and phonics challenge. Matching the unscrambled word to its picture reinforces plant science vocabulary in a hands-on, puzzle-like way.
Diwali Addition Worksheet for Kids: Counting and Adding Objects!
Ages 4-5 · Pre-KAges 4-5 · ReceptionAges 4-5 · LKGAges 4-5
Children ages 4-5 practice addition by counting two separate sets of Diwali-themed objects, then combining the totals and writing the sum. Seeing objects grouped together concretely helps children understand what 'adding' actually means before relying on memorized number facts. This festive theme also connects the math skill to a real cultural celebration, giving the abstract addition work a meaningful, relatable context.
Landforms Worksheet: Circle the Correct Picture!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
This worksheet introduces children ages 4-6 to basic landform vocabulary — words like mountain, valley, island, or river — by asking them to read or hear a landform's name and circle the picture that matches it. Connecting a geography term to its correct visual representation builds early science and social studies vocabulary well before children can read complex nonfiction text on their own. This kind of word-to-picture matching also reinforces observational skills, since children must notice the distinguishing visual features that make one landform different from another.
Blend Words Coloring Worksheet for Preschoolers
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
Consonant blends, like 'bl,' 'st,' or 'fr,' require children ages 4-6 to read two consonant sounds together without a vowel between them, which is genuinely more demanding than single-consonant CVC words and represents an important next step in phonics progression. This worksheet asks children to read a blend word and then color the picture that matches it, giving an immediate visual check on whether they decoded the blend correctly. Because coloring is the reward for accurate reading, the activity keeps repeated blend practice feeling engaging rather than repetitive.

Sl Blend Words Worksheet: Read, Identify, and Circle!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
Reading and circling words that begin with the 'sl' consonant blend helps children ages 4-6 hear that two consonants pressed together, like s and l, still form one connected sound at the start of a word. This is a more advanced phonics skill than single-letter sounds, since children must blend two consonants smoothly rather than separating them. Recognizing blends like 'sl' in words such as 'slide' or 'sled' builds the decoding fluency needed to read longer, less predictable words independently.
Cr Blend Words Worksheet for Preschoolers: Read & Match!
Ages 3-5 · Preschool–Pre-KAges 3-5 · Nursery–ReceptionAges 3-5 · Nursery–LKGAges 3-5
This worksheet has children read words starting with the 'cr' blend, like 'crab' or 'crayon,' and then match each one to its picture, building both decoding skill and the vocabulary connection between a written word and a real object. For ages three to five, hearing and producing the blended 'cr' sound also improves overall speech clarity, since blended consonants are often among the later sounds children master.
Blend Words Matching Worksheet: Read and Circle the Picture!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
This worksheet gives children ages 4-6 further practice reading consonant blend words and connecting them to their matching picture, this time by circling rather than cutting and pasting, which keeps the focus purely on reading and visual scanning. Repeated blend practice across different formats — matching, circling, and later independent writing — helps these two-consonant sounds become automatic rather than something a child has to sound out every time.
Dr Blend Words Worksheet: Read and Match!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
This worksheet focuses on the 'dr' blend, as in 'drum' or 'dress,' asking children to read the word first and then find its matching picture, which reverses the more common picture-first phonics approach and pushes children to truly decode the word rather than guess from an image. For ages four to six, reading the word independently before checking against a picture builds real decoding confidence.
Wh' Blend Words Worksheet: Read, Learn, and Circle!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
The 'wh' blend appears in common early words like 'what,' 'when,' and 'why,' making it an especially high-value sound for children ages 4-6 to master, since these words show up constantly in questions and everyday speech. This worksheet has children read and recognize 'wh' words paired with pictures before circling them in a final list, reinforcing both the visual spelling pattern and the blended sound. Because 'wh' words are often question words, mastering this blend also supports oral language development alongside pure phonics skill.
Ch Blend Words Worksheet: Read, Learn, and Circle!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
This worksheet focuses children ages 4-6 on recognizing words that begin with the 'ch' digraph, like 'chair' and 'cheese', asking them to read and then circle matching words. Because 'ch' represents a single new sound rather than two blended consonants, mastering it teaches children an important phonics rule: some letter pairs combine to make one brand-new sound entirely.
Blends Revision Worksheet: Cut and Glue!
Ages 4-5 · Pre-KAges 4-5 · ReceptionAges 4-5 · LKGAges 4-5
Sorting pictures by their beginning blend sound (br, cr, dr) sharpens phonemic awareness for children ages 4-5, teaching them that two consonants blended together still keep their own distinct sounds. This cut-and-glue format forces careful listening before pasting, since a picture can only go in one column, which builds the auditory discrimination that underlies early decoding.
Blends Revision Worksheet: Circle the Correct Blend!
Ages 4-6 · Pre-K–KindergartenAges 4-6 · Reception–Year 1Ages 4-6 · LKG–UKGAges 4-6
Choosing the correct consonant blend to match a picture asks children ages 4-6 to compare two similar-sounding options, like 'bl' versus 'br,' and decide which one truly matches the word they hear, a sharper phonics skill than recognizing a single blend in isolation. This side-by-side comparison format catches confusion between commonly mixed-up blends that simple flashcards might miss. Building this discrimination skill helps children read multisyllabic and blended words more accurately and confidently.
