1st Grade Letter Tracing Worksheets (Ages 6–7)

Only for the letters that are still going wrong, not for the whole alphabet again. Knowing an alphabet and forming every letter correctly are different things, and by six most remaining errors are a handful of specific letters, commonly b, d, and sometimes s or the numeral 3 written backward. A short, targeted tracing sheet for just those letters, followed by writing them inside a word, corrects the habit faster than a full alphabet review.

By six to seven, tracing individual letters is mostly finished, so letter tracing narrows to whatever is not yet reliable: reversed letters such as b and d, letters formed with the wrong starting point, or, where the school teaches it, the entry and exit strokes of cursive letters. Worksheets should isolate a small set of these letters, trace each several times with the direction marked, and finish with the same letters written inside a real word. A child ready for this stage decodes CVC words automatically, writes a simple sentence with a capital letter and end punctuation, adds and subtracts fluently within 10, and counts and writes numerals confidently to 20.
