Roll & Move Activity: Fun Physical Activity Cube for Kids!

This cut-and-fold craft combines fine motor skills with gross motor movement, as children build a paper cube featuring different physical actions and then roll it to determine which activity to perform. For ages 3-5, following multi-step folding and gluing instructions builds spatial reasoning and sequencing, while the resulting game encourages active movement and following simple rules.

How to use this worksheet

Start by cutting out the cube template along the dotted lines, helping your child navigate the more detailed cut lines around the tabs. Guide your child to fold along each crease to form the six-sided cube shape, then glue or tape the tabs to hold it together securely. Once the cube is assembled, take turns rolling it and reading aloud whichever physical action lands face up, such as 'hop like a bunny' or 'spin around.' Perform that action together before rolling again for the next turn.

Materials needed

  • Scissors
  • Glue or Tape

Extension activities

  • •Brainstorm and add new physical actions to write on a blank side of the cube for extra variety.
  • •Roll the cube repeatedly for one minute and count how many different actions you can complete in that time.
  • •Play the cube game with friends or siblings, taking turns rolling and performing actions together.
  • •Create a second cube with different themed actions, like animal movements or dance moves.
  • •Turn the cube game into an outdoor activity, giving more space for bigger movements like jumping or running.

Tips for parents and teachers

Supervise the cutting and folding steps closely, since aligning a paper cube's tabs accurately is more demanding than most flat worksheets and younger children in this age range will likely need hands-on help. Once assembled, model the first action yourself with enthusiasm to show your child how to play, since some directions may be unfamiliar movements. Keep the physical actions safe and appropriately paced for your indoor or outdoor space before rolling begins.
