Shape Exploration: A Parent's Guide to Shapes and Movement
This parent-led guide helps children ages 3-5 connect shape knowledge to physical movement and everyday observation, exploring how shapes look, how they can move (rolling, sliding, stacking), and where they appear in the real world. How to use this worksheet
Read through the guide's suggested activities together before starting. Use the flashcards to introduce or review each shape's name, then use toys or household objects of different shapes to test how each one moves — does it roll, slide, or stay still? Discuss the size differences between objects of the same shape, and talk through basic travel safety concepts if that section is included. Let your child lead some of the exploring themselves.

Tips for parents and teachers
Let your child physically test how each shape moves rather than just telling them the answer — discovering that a ball rolls but a cube doesn't is far more memorable than being told. Ask open-ended questions like 'why do you think that shape rolled?' to build reasoning alongside vocabulary. Keep sessions playful and follow your child's curiosity if they want to linger on one shape.
