Family Words Worksheet: See, Tick, and Glue!
Children ages 3-5 practice recognizing family-member words and connecting them to pictures through a tick-and-glue format that combines quick visual checking with a hands-on cutting task. Doing the same type of match twice in different formats — once by ticking, once by pasting — gives extra repetition of the same small set of words, which is exactly what builds recognition at this age.

How to use this worksheet
Look at each picture together, read the word choices out loud, and have your child tick the correct word for each family member shown. Next, help your child cut out the pictures provided at the bottom of the page, then read the words in the remaining boxes together before your child glues the correct picture next to each one. Work through the page in two clear stages — all the ticking first, then all the cutting and gluing — so your child isn't switching tasks constantly.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
Extension activities
- •Create your own family word flashcards using the same words from the worksheet.
- •Write a short sentence together using one of the family words, like 'I love my mom.'
- •Find objects around the house that rhyme with one of the family words for a quick sound game.
- •Make a paper family portrait, labeling each person with the matching word.
Tips for parents and teachers
Encourage your child to sound out the words as they work rather than relying only on the pictures for cues. Help with the cutting and gluing steps as needed, since fine motor control is still developing at this age and shouldn't overshadow the reading goal. Keep the activity light and conversational — talking about your own family as you go makes the words more meaningful than drilling them in isolation.

Family Words Cut and Paste Worksheet for Preschoolers
This worksheet gives children ages 4-6 repeated practice connecting a written word to its meaning through picture matching, reinforcing that letters combine to represent real, recognizable things. Cutting and gluing the pictures also builds the fine motor control and spatial planning needed to place a small object precisely within a defined space.
Family Words Cut and Paste Worksheet for Early Readers
Reading a simple CVC word and matching it to its picture teaches children ages 4-6 to blend individual sounds into a whole word and then connect that word to its meaning, a core decoding skill for early readers. Because CVC words follow a consistent consonant-vowel-consonant pattern, practicing them builds a reliable phonics foundation that transfers to reading many other simple words.
Family Words Cut and Paste Worksheet for Early Readers
Reading a word family term and then finding its matching picture teaches children ages 4-6 to connect print directly to meaning, an essential bridge between decoding and comprehension. The cutting and gluing component also strengthens fine motor precision, requiring children to align a small picture accurately next to its corresponding word.
Fun 'un' Family Words Worksheet for Kids
Reading and matching words from the 'un' family, like fun, run, and sun, teaches children ages 4-6 to recognize a shared spelling pattern and use it to decode new words more quickly. Because this word family relies on consistent rhyming sounds, practicing it strengthens the connection between letter patterns and pronunciation that underlies early reading fluency.
Clothing Pattern Match Worksheet for Preschoolers
This worksheet has children ages 3-5 study repeating patterns on clothing items — stripes, polka dots, or checks — and match each item to its identical twin, building visual discrimination and early pattern-sequencing skills. Distinguishing between similar-looking patterns also sharpens attention to detail, a skill that later supports letter and word recognition.
Coding Kites Worksheet: Match the Bows!
This activity sharpens visual observation in children ages 3-5 as they compare color sequences on each kite to a set of loose bows and find the exact match. Careful, systematic comparison — checking each color in order rather than glancing quickly — builds an attention-to-detail habit that transfers directly to early reading and number work.
CVC Train Worksheet: Write and Build CVC Words!
This worksheet gives children ages 4-6 focused practice blending letter sounds into consonant-vowel-consonant words, using train-car pictures as clues for words like 'dog,' 'hen,' or 'cup.' Because children both write the word and can optionally build it with Lego blocks, this worksheet reinforces the same phonics skill through two different physical actions — handwriting and hands-on construction — which helps the spelling patterns stick.
Stick Man Emotions Worksheet: Happy, Sad, Angry, and Surprised!
Children ages 4-6 practice reading facial expressions on this worksheet, matching stick-figure faces to their correct emotion labels by noticing details like mouth shape and eyebrow position. This strengthens emotional literacy — the ability to name and recognize feelings in others — which supports empathy and smoother social interactions as children move into more group play and classroom settings.
