India Independence Day Worksheets (Ages 3–7)
Independence Day worksheets are printable activity sheets for children aged 3 to 7 based on India's 15 August celebrations. They include colouring the tricolour flag in the correct order, tracing flag and map outlines, counting saluting figures, matching national symbols to their names, and completing patriotic patterns, building colour recognition, tracing, counting and matching skills.
India's Independence Day falls on 15 August every year, right in the middle of the school term when Nursery through Class 1 classrooms hold a flag-hoisting assembly and a craft period. A three-year-old colours a large tricolour flag outline, learning that saffron sits on top, white in the middle and green at the bottom; a six-year-old traces a map of India or counts a row of saluting figures in a parade scene. These worksheets give teachers and parents a ready activity for the classroom craft period and the school-holiday morning without needing to design anything from scratch.

What children learn through Independence Day worksheets
Independence Day worksheets use the tricolour flag, the Ashoka Chakra and national symbols as the subject for colour recognition and tracing: a three- to five-year-old colours a flag outline in the correct saffron-white-green order, while a six- or seven-year-old traces a map of India or counts figures in a parade scene. Matching sheets pair national symbols, the flag, the emblem, the map, with their printed names.
- Colouring the tricolour flag in the correct order
- Tracing flag, map of India and Ashoka Chakra outlines
- Counting saluting figures, balloons or flags in a scene
- Matching national symbols to their printed names
What to prepare a week before Independence Day
Print a mixed set of colouring, tracing and matching sheets before 15 August so a child has a flag-colouring sheet ready for the classroom craft period or the holiday morning assembly at home. Keep saffron, white and green crayons or colour pencils together with the printed pack so the flag colours are correct without needing to mix shades.
- Print 4–5 sheets across colouring, tracing and matching
- Stock saffron, white and green crayons with the printed pack
- Practise the flag colour order a few days before the assembly
- Keep one map-tracing sheet aside for an older child
Frequently asked questions
What age are Independence Day worksheets for?
Independence Day worksheets on this page suit children aged 3 to 7, roughly Nursery through Class 1 in Indian schools. Three- and four-year-olds do best with flag colouring and simple tracing sheets, while five- to seven-year-olds are ready for map tracing, counting and symbol-matching sheets that suit the UKG and Class 1 level.
What should a child know about the Indian flag by age 5?
By age 5, in UKG, most children can name the three flag colours in order, saffron, white and green, recognise the Ashoka Chakra in the centre, and colour a flag outline correctly without adult help. Independence Day worksheets that ask a child to colour a blank flag outline check exactly this skill.
How do worksheets help explain Independence Day to a young child?
A worksheet gives a young child a concrete task, colouring the flag or tracing the map, to pair with a simple spoken explanation that India became free from British rule on 15 August 1947. Children aged 3 to 5 remember festivals and national days through repeated hands-on activity better than through a spoken account alone.
When should Independence Day worksheet practice start?
Starting a week before 15 August gives a child two or three short sessions to practise the flag colouring order and, for older children, the map tracing, without rushing it the night before the school assembly. One short sheet every other day in that week is enough for most children aged 3 to 7.
Are the Independence Day worksheets free to download?
Yes. Every Independence Day worksheet and printable pack can be downloaded free as a watermarked PDF after creating an account, with five downloads a day. An annual subscription removes the watermark and the daily limit across these sheets, printable packs and the rest of the 1,000+ worksheet library.
