Year 1 Connect the Dots Worksheets (Ages 5–6)

It shows where the sequence breaks. A line drawn from 29 to 20 instead of 30 means the tens boundary is not secure; a jump from 13 to 15 means the teens need work; a hesitation at 40 or 50 points to the same thing further up. Lowercase alphabet versions reveal b, d, p and q confusions in the same way. Treat the sheet as a check and fix the gap it exposes with counting practice.

Five-year-olds count to 30 and then 50 through a picture, join lowercase letters a to z, count by 10s to 100, and count backwards from 20. Dots are denser and the outline is hidden until the end, so scanning has to be systematic. A pencil replaces the crayon and lines should be reasonably straight. A wrong line shows exactly which number the child is unsure of, which makes these sheets a useful check as well as practice. Entering this stage, a child should blend most Phase 3 sounds into words, write a few letters correctly formed, count reliably to twenty, and sit through a short table task without needing constant redirection.

The sheets cover counting or sequencing in order, fine motor control drawing straight segments, letter or number recognition when dots are labeled and completing a picture from a sequence, which sit inside the National Curriculum KS1 (Year 1); Letters and Sounds Phase 3–5 outcomes for Year 1.
