Phonics Level 2 Worksheets: CVC, CCVC, CVCC Word Families & Blends for Early Readers (Ages 4-7)

Phonics Level 2 is a printable phonics pack for children aged 4 to 7 (preschool, kindergarten, LKG, UKG and Year 1) who have finished Level 1 and can blend simple CVC words. It has 52 pages: a cover with a contents list, a one-page Parent's Guide, four sound mats, 44 worksheets, a certificate of achievement and an answer key for grown-ups.

The four sound mats show every sound with its spellings and picture words: consonants and short vowels, consonant digraphs, long and r-influenced vowel sounds, and a new mat for beginning blends, ending blends and ck. The worksheets then move step by step: read, cut and reveal flaps for the CVC families ed, og, op, ob, ug, um and ub, then CCVC words such as clap, frog and stag, digraph words with ch, sh and th, CVCC words such as pond, gift and lamp, and CCVCC words such as crisp, plant and stamp.

Later pages revise and stretch: CVC revision with first, middle and end sounds and rhymes, word hunts and word searches, vocabulary and unscramble pages, circle-and-sort blends and digraphs practice, odd one out, c or k and g or j choices, hard and soft c and g, and three crosswords that use words from the whole level. Sound buttons (dots and arrows) under the words help children say each sound and blend.

Use one page a day for about ten minutes, and take one word family at a time. You need scissors for pages 7 to 13, scissors and glue for pages 34 and 39, and crayons for colouring. The answer key is on page 52. Everything uses British spelling and works at home, in the classroom or for homeschooling. Print in colour, or print only the pages you need.
